Neural Mechanisms, Models, and Brain-Computer Interfaces for Speech Perception and Production
Speaker: Prof. Yuanning Li, Associate Professor & Researcher
Chair: Prof. Huiguang He
Time: 14:30, Thursday, August 15th, 2024
Venue: No. 8 Meeting Room (17th Floor), Intelligent Building, Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences
Human social cognition is enriched through speech communication, which in natural language relies on efficient processing of information by the cortical speech network. Understanding the neural coding and control mechanisms of speech perception and production in the brain is a key scientific question.
This talk will present a novel research framework combining invasive high-density electrocorticography (ECoG) with data-driven artificial intelligence models to study the neural encoding and decoding mechanisms, computational models, and brain-computer interface applications related to cross-linguistic speech perception and production.
Prof. Yuanning Li is a Researcher and Associate Professor at the School of Biomedical Engineering, ShanghaiTech University, where he leads the Computational Cognition and Translational Neuroscience Laboratory. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, followed by postdoctoral training in neurosurgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He has been recognized with the NIH Outstanding Scholar Award and selected for multiple talent programs, including the National Young Talents Program and municipal-level initiatives in Shanghai.
His research focuses on computational cognitive neuroscience and brain-machine learning, particularly the neural mechanisms of language-related cognition, neural encoding and decoding models, and speech brain-computer interfaces. His representative work has been published in Nature Neuroscience, Nature Communications, Science Advances, and PNAS.
